Two esteemed writers give a reading and conversation with Alice Barry (Noggin Theatre Company) at this year’s festival. Cathy Sweeney’s short fiction has been widely praised, her prose likened to Samuel Beckett. Her blistering debut novel, Breakdown, displays an impressive economy of language as the middle-aged narrator leaves her husband and two children asleep in their suburban Dublin home.
Anya Bergman illustrates through Anna the strength and complexity of women intelligently and powerfully. Her female characters distil womanhood, magic and resilience into a narrative that shocks, entertains, educates and disturbs.
Alice’s play Violet Gibson; The Woman Who Shot Mussolini is one of the highlights of this year’s festival.
