Ilse De Ziah

Ilse de Ziah, cellist, arranger, conductor and composer has a colourful and varied career. Born in Connecticut USA, she grew up sitting under a piano listening to her mother play Chopin and Bach. Ilse began piano at four, cello at twelve, continued her musical studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia, and went on to complete her Masters at the Cork School of Music. She has been in Ireland for fifteen years. In 2014 her music film, Living the Tradition, an Enchanting Journey into Old Irish Airs had its premiere at the first Midleton (mid may) Arts Festival and went on to win best feature documentary in the Eerie International Film Festival. Ilse is the Musical Director of the Cork Light Orchestra, principal cellist of the City of Cork Symphony Orchestra and Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra, leads the Scarlet String Quartet, gives solo cello recitals in Ireland and abroad, tours with U.K singer Jan Allain as “Jan & Ilse” and is a member of the Quiet Music Ensemble. Ilse has featured as actor/musician in award winning theatre shows, including the 2016 production of Prodijig: The Revolution at the Cork Opera House. She has performed with many artists of renown, even touring America with actor Russell Crowe. She has composed film music for the European Space Agency, for dance and short films and composes and publishes cello sheet music at her online store playcellomusic.com.
